January 11, 2018

On Tuesday , the town of Willow Street lost a icon . Mr Slagel owned a gas station and had a towing business that is located right beside the firehouse . When in the towing business , Jim Sr was the one who you called when your vehicle was broke down or in an accident . Jim's Towing was often called to the scene of our accidents. The service and was second to none. There was not a vehicle overturned , on it side , or down the embankment that he could not handle .

Jim's grandson Jordan , is currently an active member with the fire department.

James L. Slagel, 77, of Willow Street, passed away at Conestoga View Nursing Home, Tuesday, January 9, 2018. Born in Lancaster, James was the son of the late Willard and Lauretta (Vogel) Slagel. He was the loving husband of Patricia A. (Kneisley) Slagel, with whom he celebrated nearly 58 years of marriage.

James was of the Christian Faith and greatly loved his family. Throughout life, James enjoyed working on and building cars, especially hotrods. He also spent time listening to "Oldies."

In addition to his wife, James is survived by his son, Jim L. Slagel, Jr., husband of Stacey, of Willow Street; 3 grandchildren: Stephanie, Jordan, and Jenna; and a great-grandson, Zayne. He is also survived by 2 siblings: Margot Sachs, wife of Richard and Glenn Slagel, husband of Frances; and 3 nieces and 2 nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2PM, Friday, January 12, 2018, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 440 St. Joseph St., Lancaster, PA 17603. Family and friends will be received for a time of visitation at the church from 1-2PM. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions in James' name may be made to St. Joseph's Catholic Church Restoration Fund at the above address or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. To leave the family an online condolence,
